East Mountains by Waterwise Landscapes Incorporated In the stunning backdrop of New Mexico East Mountains, Waterwise Landscapes Incorporated was able to change an awkwardly sloped landscape into a magical outdoor space. Waterwise Landscapes serves the community areas of Albuquerque, Isleta, Kirtland Afb, North Valley, Paradise Hills, Rio Rancho, Sandia Heights, South Valley and Los Ranchos de Albuquerque; we harnessed the unique geographical features and mountain climate to create a sustainable landscape solution that blends characteristics found in the area. The plants we eventually selected for the garden design consisted of a careful collection of native plants, drought resistant shrubs, and colorful flower perennials that were acclimatized to the high desert lifestyle, while providing outdoor water savings. Locally sourced boulders were used for the organic, smooth stone pathways throughout the garden, as well as the use of boulders in the flowerbed retaining walls. We opted for a clever drip irrigation system throughout the landscape with all piping buried below ground, so that each plant had a supply of water, as needed throughout the growing seasons, while it presented an efficient design. One of the challenges of the was that the site was not a traditional flat terrane. Grading and terracing was necessary to achieve adequately leveled outdoor living space, while retaining the natural beauty of the landscape, given its gradient state. We also wanted to introduce multi-level patios that would leverage the view of the mountains, and provide comfortable areas for client entertaining outside. The end result was breathtaking - a functional landscape that exceeded our client's expectations! As you move through the outdoor space, you will discover secluded seating areas with lush plants, a winding stone pathway that encourages individuals to explore the garden, and splashes of color provided by flowers in every season. The East Mountains is just one example in a multitude of situations where Waterwise Landscapes Incorporated was able to furniture a recreational space through innovative design, craftsmanship and creativity while producing gardens that are sustainable living spaces.
