Landscape and Walkways for Pool Area by Dr. Dan's Landscaping & Architectural Design Located in the heart of Virginia Beach, Dr. Dan's Landscaping & Architectural Design completed the 'Pool Area Landscape and Walkways' to turn an average backyard into an extraordinary outdoor living space. This was carefully designed to guide the homeowner's experience in the space, integrating practical use and beauty. Our team started by assessing the existing landscape. The goal was to create an inviting and cohesive design that would begin to integrate with the pool area. The included a combination of lush, drought tolerant plantings with bright tropical plants, ornamental grasses, and seasonal color blooms included to contribute to the visual palette. For the walkways we chose premium material of a natural stone paver and decorative gravel that contributed both function and beauty. One of the areas of concern was the grade of the land, which needed innovative grading solutions to drain properly and provide accessible walkways. Our team paid special attention to a tiered landscaping design, allowing us to build multi-level plant beds which visually create layers of depth, while eliminating topsoil erosion. Additionally, we chose bush and perennials that are native to Virginia Beach's climate and will be low maintenance and sustainable. The finished product was a beautifully layered landscape that integrated the design of the existing pool. The winding paths lead guests to different gathering areas with custom-built benches and fire pits. Ambient lighting provided the right atmosphere for evening entertaining. The client was thrilled with the finished landscape, stating that it not only increased the value of their property, but also provided them their own retreat to enjoy with family and friends.
