A Craftsman Style Landscape by Dr. Dan's Landscaping & Architectural Design Located in Virginia Beach, Dr. Dan's Landscaping & Architectural Design was able to execute a beautifully designed landscape, organized around one of the original Craftsman style homes in the city, cooking, not only a blending of landscape and architecture to create beauty, but a reimagining of the Craftsman style design through paths of stone, hand crafted wooden trellises, and native planting grouped in purposeful placements throughout the yard. It was a wonderful and rewarding landscape to create. The started with a full design consultation. Our team worked with the client closely to understand what they envisioned living in and using their home/landscape would be like for their personal lifestyle. Some of the features of the landscape were a wonderful flagstone patio to gather family for outdoor entertaining. The colors in the flagstone were purposely selected to tie the patio stone to the home's exterior - removing any abruptness of a patio touching a home and creating a "flow" from ground to ground, the patio to the house! The landscape was selected to work with a site of difficult uneven terrain. Our team modified and reshaped the landscape training beds in a tiered design that both created interest as well as useful drainage and soil health improvement. We incorporated multiple varieties of drought resistant planting as flowering perennials and native cultivars in the beds to provide color year round while being mindful around the use of water. We built custom wooden benches and threw in a little arbor for good measure to enhance the craftsman style and create spaces that allowed someone to become relaxed and think, with the lush greens of the landscape. Natural materials like reclaimed wood for the bench and local stone for the lower-level construction made the design integration easy as well as sustainable to the environment. Overall, a lovely was completed. This will not only reflect the client and their personal style, but adds even more curb appeal to their home. Good craftsmanship and attention to the client's vision paid off; the client was excited to have us leave, knowing their turned their landscape into an oasis, a space in their neighborhood of Virginia Beach beauty.
