Tudor Patio Update by McCullough's Landscape & Nursery Located in Upper Arlington's Tudor-style neighborhood, the Tudor Patio Update by McCullough's Landscape & Nursery resulted in a successful fusion of old-world character and modern-day functionality appeal. Our began when a homeowner wished to update their outdoor space while honoring the Tudor architectural style of their home. Our first step was to assess the existing patio area, which had fallen into disrepair. One of the main challenges with this was to keep the aesthetic charm while updating material selection, durability, and functionality. High-quality and locally sourced bluestone pavers were selected for their timeless beauty, durability, and natural polyester colors that complemented the character of the Tudor-style house, achieving a visually pleasing transition between the indoors and out. Per the homeowner's request, custom-built cedar planters loaded with native perennial/naturalistic plantings were incorporated into the design plan to evoke colorful seasonal interest, attract local pollinators, and support biodiversity. Stone seating was provided to rescale the outdoor room and offer a sense of place, surrounding the custom-made, handcrafted stone fire pit, which offers the intimate warmth and enjoyment of gathering around the campfire. Overcoming the challenge of uneven terrain was the most memorable part of this . The excavation of the area performed by the McCullough team provided the homeowner with not only a flat surface but graded the soil to ensure proper drainage and stability for the patio. This will extend the longevity of the patio and prevent water pooling. Additionally, the use of landscape lighting further enhanced the patio's features and created a warm, cozy atmosphere during the evening. Overall, the finished was exquisite! It satisfied the homeowner's needs to entertain guests and to quietly enjoy their outdoor spacerespectfully balancing old-world charm with modern outdoor living. The homeowners were thrilled with the patio update !
