Quarter-Mediterranean Courtyard Accomplished by Michael Rosenberg Landscape Architecture, the 'Quarter-Mediterranean Courtyard' showcases the ability to convert a smaller outdoor site into a calming get-away. Located within the active communities of Santa Cruz, Monterey, and the Bay Area, this courtyard harmoniously combines various Mediterranean-themed elements as both art and resource. The starting point of the was the assessment of the narrow dimensions that had specific challenges to optimize the usability of the space while maintaining a cohesive design. Our office utilized various drought-tolerant plants that intensified fragrant lavender, bougainvillea, and rosemary yet developed layers of color and texture to convey the warmth of the Mediterranean. Flooring with natural stone pavers not only helped depict the aesthetic but also provided durability along with low maintenance necessary in a coastal area. An original trellis structured with vines provides an additional focal point for experience, with protection from the sun as well as privacy. Hand-created ceramic pots for seasonal blooms unite color with craftsmanship. A small water feature hidden stirs the air with a gentle babble; overall the site provides for a calm and reflective ambiance. As the progressed, Michael Rosenberg Landscape Architecture took every opportunity to be ecologically conscious with permeable materials for drainage and emphasized native plant varieties appropriate to the environment of the house. The final result is a sustainable courtyard that aligns with the architecture and fosters biodiversity. The final design plan pleased the client, who was genuinely impressed with the outcome. The 'Quarter-Mediterranean Courtyard' is a successful representation of quality craftsmanship, integrity in design, and unique solutions for each client in a relaxing setting close to home in the Bay Area.
