Carlsbad Contemporary Cape Cod Kathy Henry Exterior Design has just completed the breathtaking Carlsbad Contemporary Cape Cod landscape that beautifully combines traditional coastal style with contemporary appeal. Located in the heart of Carlsbad, the outdoor space created includes meticulously designed gardens, revolutionary hardscaping and plant selections that fit within the coastal climate. highlights include a handcrafted garden path made of stone and accented with native succulents, providing both function and aesthetic appeal. We built a substantial multi-level deck, constructed of sustainably sourced Ipe wood, to maximize the outdoor living experience, while gathering and entertaining with friends and family over a stunning ocean view. We faced the challenge of a steep sloping, largely unusable property. As part of the design, we developed a drainage plan, which included terracing to manage water flow and erosion while creating usable spaces. We accomplished all of this with a system of retaining walls, stone at varying heights, and plant beds in a wealth of different heights that cascade down the walls to add interest, as well as support biodiversity. Finally, this resulted in a landscape that embodies a blend of form and functionality, filled with a diverse selection of drought tolerance plants, which were selected for their hardiness and low maintenance requirements. Custom outdoor lighting was installed to accent the home’s architectural features and provide a warm glow and inviting feel at night. Now our delighted homeowners enjoy their new, beautifully designed landscape that reflects their style and improves their quality of life.
