Carmel Valley New Construction with Kathy Henry Exterior Design Situated among the stunning vistas of Carmel Valley, the ‘Carmel Valley New Construction’ represents the ideal fusion of style and function via Kathy Henry Exterior Design. The outcome was a beautifully balanced landscape that feels at home with its natural setting, while complementing the architecture of the newly-constructed house. From the jump, our team was tasked with the responsibility of creating a beautiful outdoor environment from a blank landscape. In order for this design to complement both the architecture of the site and the local ecosystem, we started with an analysis of the site. The landscape highlights a diversity of native plants including California lilac and manzanita, both which are drought resistant and low maintenance, which are two characteristics of sustainable landscapes. The focal point of the landscape is a gorgeous natural stone water feature, designed and built with the intent to create a natural diversion for the sounds of wind and traffic that still allows wildlife to inhabit the space and to be enjoyed by the home owners. Lastly, a custom paver patio of sustainable materials was designed as a cozy outdoor space for entertaining. Additionally, the patio includes soft, but functional LED lighting that helps to complete the evenings ambiance. In order to accommodate the challenges of a steep site, the team engineered terraced beds that not only worked well, but provided additional drainage and prevented erosion. Boulders, gravel and planting in the surrounding areas created a natural flow throughout the property, while guiding guests through the gardens. Our commitment to quality is displayed in detail in every strike of the hammer - from strategically selected materials and architectural interessantes both for planting to retain features and textures and provide color year around. The end result was an extraordinary outdoor environment built to reflect the wishes of the client to help disconnect from the pace of life.
