Small Home - Large Outdoor Living Jacobs Grant Design Ltd. firmly believes that you can have vast outdoor living spaces regardless of the smallness of your home’s footprint. Our newest called "Small Home - Large Outdoor Living", us from being opportunity-based, decides to focus on proof to our mission through significant landscaping work within the Amlin, Bexley, Columbus, Dublin, Gahanna, and surrounding areas. This had a unique twist: creating a small backyard into an oasis that maximizes the space, while not sacrificing style! We began the by doing a deep dive into what was there, the client’s vision, and what could be improved. The design plan included a multi-tiered deck made from premium, sustainably sourced cedar that could be used as a wonderful area for outdoor dining and relaxing. To improve the outdoor experience the crew designed a custom fire area, with natural stone seating, perfect for stories or just sitting around on a cold evening with friends. We added vibrant landscaping that included a mix of native plants and flowering perennials. The colors and plant selection had to be completely palatable to the homeowners but they would also include variety and texture so that the outdoor experience had plants for a good show all year round. The one obstacle we had on the site was the uneven terrain that we utilized to create elevation changes and defined zones for outdoor dining, lounging, and gardening. Our crews engineered creative drainage solutions to efficiently move draining water away so that the outdoor spaces did not flood and that the overall landscape would last longer while remaining comfortable for the homeowner. The end result was a stunning outdoor living space that met and exceeded the homeowner’s expectations! The homeowner enjoyed a seamless transition between the outdoor living space and the indoor living space; both were perfect for hosting friends and/or quietly unwinding in nature.
