Description

The Short Path Distillation Head HB1 150, part of Summit Research's HB series, is a cutting-edge distillation head designed for precision in high-capacity distillations. Featuring a 34/45 discharge port and a 150 mm flanged bore, this head is engineered to provide efficient separation of distillation fractions. It secures to a boiling flask using a robust O-ring and clamp for a secure, airtight seal. With its large bore size, the HB1 150 is suitable for laboratories handling substantial volumes of product in need of precise fractionation.

No-Vig Technology for Superior Fraction Separation

The HB1 150 utilizes an industry-first "no-vig" approach, which eliminates the need for traditional vigreux columns. Instead, the design incorporates a baffled section that extends below the head base and into the boiling flask. This approach allows for ultra-selective fraction collection, enabling the evacuation of previous fractions before the main body is collected. The no-vig design simplifies the distillation process, ensuring only the desired distillate components pass through while heads fractions are effectively removed.

Optimized for Fast, Selective Distillation

The HB1 150 was created and fine-tuned with the help of tester Breaking Dabs aka Heisenberg, whose expertise has contributed to the evolution of the HB series. This head is particularly effective for first-pass distillations, offering the ability to retain the main body while removing unwanted heads fractions with precision. It is designed to handle fast distillations, particularly when the proper temperature is reached, without allowing the main body components to prematurely pass through.

Custom Vacuum Setup for Enhanced Performance

To achieve the best results with the HB1 150 distillation head, a custom vacuum system is required. Summit Research recommends the following setups:

  • Sogevac + dual E2M30
  • Sogevac + E80
  • Sogevac + E80 + diffusion array

Additionally, using an Apollo Vacuum Controller with the inert gas sweeping feature will further enhance stock speed and reduce temperatures, providing optimal performance for larger-scale distillations.
