Description

The Ultra Short Path Distillation Micro Head (previously known as SPD-7.1) is an advanced distillation solution from Summit Research, designed for ultra-low temperature distillation. This horizontal head refines materials with precision, allowing for high-efficiency performance at lower temperatures. The Micro Head is ideal for materials that have already been refined or treated through filtration, washing, or chromatography processes before use. This distillation system is not intended for raw materials or crude extracts and requires materials to be fully dried for optimal performance. Wet materials will prevent the vacuum from fully engaging and compromise the distillation process.

Refining Process and Material Requirements

The Ultra Short Path Distillation Micro Head requires a high vacuum to operate efficiently, making it essential to use properly refined and dried materials. The system is not suited for unrefined crude products, such as green or black materials. The horizontal design of the SPD-7.1 ensures that temperatures are controlled precisely throughout the distillation process, allowing for ultra-low temperature refinement.

Key Refining Process Considerations:

  • Material Pre-Treatment: Only refined and dried materials should be used to ensure optimal distillation performance.
  • Vacuum Requirements: The system requires more intensive vacuum setups; a diffusion pump is needed for the 22-liter system, while the dual e2m28/30 setup is sufficient for the 5-liter system.
  • No Green/Black Crude Materials: Attempting to load unrefined crude material will result in poor performance.

Innovative Design for Low-Temperature Refinement

The Ultra Short Path Distillation Micro Head features a high-flow dual condenser coil system, paired with GL18 adapters to maintain precise temperatures throughout the distillation process. This horizontal design ensures that the entire process is optimized for maximum efficiency at lower temperatures, allowing for the refined collection of desired fractions.

  • Big Bore 45/50 Inlet and Outlet: Provides ample flow for material passage.
  • Traditional 29/42 Discharge: Efficiently directs the distilled material into the flask.
  • Swing Arm Mechanism: The head’s innovative swing arm design allows for smooth engagement of the flask to your targeted fraction, offering superior control over fraction collection.

Included Components

The Ultra Short Path Distillation Micro Head comes with all the necessary components for high-performance distillation:

  • KF25 Adapter
  • GL18s (2) – High-temperature-resistant glass adapters to optimize heat management.

Boiling Flask and Cold Trap Compatibility

This micro head is exclusively designed to work with the following Summit Research glassware:

  • RBF-5L-3N-USPD Boiling Flask – A specially designed boiling flask for the SPD-7.1 Micro Head.
  • CT-USPD Micro Dual Coil Cold Trap – A dual-coil cold trap to ensure optimal cooling and condensation of vapors during the distillation process.

These glass components ensure that the Ultra Short Path Distillation Micro Head performs efficiently and seamlessly for the specific needs of small-scale and precision distillation processes.

Durable Schott Glass Construction

Summit Research uses premium Schott glass for all of its distillation products, and the Ultra Short Path Distillation Micro Head is no exception. This glass is thicker and more durable than industry standards, ensuring that it can handle the high-intensity conditions of ultra-low temperature distillation. Manufactured in the USA, Schott glass ensures that Summit products offer long-lasting reliability and performance in demanding laboratory environments.

Safety and Usage Recommendations

Summit Research highly recommends that all users operate the Ultra Short Path Distillation Micro Head within a ventilated fume hood with proper blast shields to ensure protection in the event of glass fatigue or failure. While the glassware is built to exceed industry standards, proper safety protocols should always be followed to ensure safe and effective operation.

Summit is not responsible for any failure or damage caused by improper use of equipment. Laboratories must ensure that all operations are conducted in licensed and legal facilities, prioritizing safety at all times.
