Aitken Street Landscape by Urban Botanics Urban Botanics showcases a revitalizing landscaping accomplished on Aitken Street, an invigorating neighborhood icon in Oakland. Our highlights our emphasis on quality, creativity, and sustainability, an example of our knowledge and ability to improve outdoor areas. The renovations at Aitken Street took a plain yard that had gone underutilized and created a rich, welcoming landscape that weaving into the environment. Our first step was to observe the specific peculiarity of site factors including the climate and condition of the soil, which allowed us to choose native plant species, resistant to drought and grown in the area, and thus, would use less water. Some of the features included beautiful colorful perennials/ornamental grasses to create interesting shapes and color during the seasons, natural stone pathways to create depth with the land, and raised beds of reclaimed timber to promote the vegetable and herb garden, which connects the client to the planet in a sustainable manner. One of the challenges was the steep slope of the yard which was also causing drainage complications. Our landscape architects created beautiful terracing, coupled with specific drainage for the property, to cascade run-off from heavy rain yet offer attractive depth and provide a sustainable growing environment for the plants, while protecting our client’s property. What an amazing outcome! The yard is a tranquil oasis of nature around every corner. When the completed, the client expressed their extreme pleasure, and would highly recommend Urban Botanics for our attention to detail and ability to bring the plan they way appreciate up their home. The Aitken Street truly exemplifies, and we are so proud to showcase, Urban Botanics motivation and journey of achieving sustainable, useful landscaping across our service areas in Alameda, Berkeley, and San Francisco.
