The 7th Avenue Landscape by Urban Botanics Urban Botanics is excited to present the “7th Avenue” , the latest in our series of beautiful landscapes that show off the quality and ingenuity of our landscaping design. This is located in an established neighborhood of Oakland and is one of our biggest renovations to date. Starting with a bare back yard that had no form or cohesion, our clients had expressed a desire for a colorful outdoor space that was relatable to their home, and areas for rest and relaxation that they could use for entertaining as well. From there, our designer worked diligently to plan the site and come up with layouts, native plants, ornamental grasses, and shrub flowers to add to the design. The new landscape will not only be colorful but will also introduce biodiversity to the property as well. To bring a welcoming element and create form, we added a custom flagstone path that meanders through the landscape to a beautiful backdrop built patio made from composite decking that was sourced sustainably. This material will not only be low maintenance, but it will also add a new design element to the lush landscape. With elevation change being a significant site challenge, we implemented a tiered garden design utilizing the existing landscape to build tiers with natural stone retaining walls to create multiple distinct levels. The layers add depth to the landscape, and they will be informative too, as each step will introduce new moments that will create new feelings the design. The tiers solved drainage issues, and allowed for the addition of cozy nooks with flower beds. As with all s and landscapes we build, every moment - both decorated and undecorated - is intended to meet and be met with a high degree of quality. Ultimately, this is a combination of functionality and beauty, perhaps displayed best with the water feature that permeates sound as it drops into the basin(s). So, our delighted clients are enjoying a beautiful garden as an extension of their home, whether it be utilized as a space for family gatherings or as quiet moments of space underneath the stars. Ultimately, this lived up to Urban Botanics platform of creating landscapes that can be lived as a lifestyle and relate with nature. I think it genuinely speaks to the sense of place one gets living in Oakland, CA!
