About This Project

Marsh Landing, FL Cynthia Burns Landscape Design turned an ordinary backyard at Marsh Landing, FL, into a beautiful outdoor space seamlessly blended with the natural landscape. Working with clients based in Jacksonville and the nearby beaches, our team created a functional, yet beautiful outdoor space for this family also looking to improve their outdoor space. The design utilized a detailed design for the and consisted of a multi-tiered patio built of regionally sourced flagstone that stood the test of time. This gave it some down-to-earth charm and also ensured that it would fare better against the elements near the coast. To promote both sustainability and biodiversity, we planted native plant species around the patio that thrive in the local climate. An earthy palette of flowering perennials, ornamental grasses, and verdant shrubs added pops of color, and boulders added a touch of naturalism to the planting design. Another big issue we had to deal with was ensuring drainage [of the area] that would not detract from the landscape beauty that was intended. After our team expertly built a french drain which moved excess water away from the garden without flooding, the garden can be lush. The final result? It was an astonishing functional and visually exciting space that had our clients smiling ear to ear! They now have an outdoor space ideal for entertaining and relaxation that isn't so far from the house for the neighbors to complain again, featuring a lovely fire pit area and a quiet water feature that attracts the local wildlife.
