About This Project

Zen Water Garden, Designed by Terra Design At Terra Design, our mission is to create outdoor spaces that embody true tranquility. Most recently, we designed a 'Zen Water Garden' in the idyllic setting of Mercer Island, designed for our clients' own private sanctuary. The centerpiece of this quiet landscape is a beautiful koi pond, surrounded by thoughtfully placed granite boulders, which are mixed with native plant material. With the very soothing sound of water pouring over the custom stone fountain, the pond evokes a sense of calm that encourages serenity and contemplation. To develop a diverse ecosystem that will attract the local wildlife, we specifically selected aquatic plants such as water lilies and lotus flowers. One of our main challenges was the integration of the garden into the existing steep terrain. Our experienced team was able to work with the site to construct terrace levels, utilizing natural stone retaining walls, not only to meet the aesthetic objectives of our client but the functional objectives as well, in regards to drainage and soil retention. High-quality materials were selected for not just aesthetic purposes but for sustainability as well, such as locally sourced stone and organic soil amendments, to make the garden sustainable for many years into the future. The end result is a beautiful combination of water features, lush plants, and tranquil spaces, which are enjoyed by the clients daily while on their own private retreat, bringing beauty and value to their property.
