About This Project

Backyard Refuge by Terra Design At Terra Design, we have the privilege of creating outdoor spaces that bring the comfort of home outdoors. Our , 'Backyard Refuge', communicates our goals of quality and innovation, serving clients in the Ballard, Beacon Hill, Mercer Island, and Seattle areas. This started with a steep, sloping yard that needed help with drainage and usability. Our team created a multi-level plan that embraced the slope using locally sourced basalt stone for the walls for function and appeal. The stone adds to the look and feel of the greenery and can withstand the Seattle climate with ease. The retreat was anchored by a beautiful custom cedar deck suitable for entertaining and relaxation. The space flows into a flagstone patio with a fire pit, open and welcoming for natural gathering. Permeable pavers were used to secure effective drainage for the patio while appearing organic to the surrounding landscape. Water features are a central part of the retreat and enhance the tranquil environment. The reclaimed granite fountain is a distinct focal point in harmony with the vibrant plant palette. We used a comprehensive foundation of plant materials such as native ferns and perennials, showcasing seasonal beauty while promoting local biodiversity. Overall, the is a stunning retreat that exceeds expectations in relaxation, entertainment, and connectivity to nature. The 'Backyard Refuge' is not a simple landscape and can add real value to life while bridging the natural landscape with good craftsmanship and innovative thinking. The client now has an outdoor escape right in their backyard that demonstrates the impact of a skilled landscape professional and the power of nature as an outdoor oasis.
