About This Project

Queen Ann Bungalow by Terra Design This is located in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood and addresses the transition from a traditional bungalow’s backyard to an urban oasis. Terra Design serves the communities of Ballard, Beacon Hill, Mercer Island, and Seattle. Our team was eager to maintain the original character of the home's architecture, as well as provide increased curb appeal and functionality. The included a beautiful composite of native plantings, rich stone pathways, and a contemporary patio that utilizes locally-sourced materials. While the client had concerns over a relatively steep slope, our team was able to provide terracing solutions that added great depth to the landscape while mitigating soil erosion. Our team also selected drought-resistant plants that had a strong aesthetic impact while requiring little maintenance. One of the strongest elements of design was a custom-built pergola that provided summer shade and a social gathering area for the client's family and friends. Using strategically-placed soft outdoor lighting, this area put the landscape at the forefront for evening gatherings. The final product achieved a coherent indoor and outdoor space that satisfied a functional outcome while achieving a visual outcome for the client. Terra Design prides itself on creating quality craftsmanship and innovative solutions. The Queen Ann Bungalow originally had little value to the property; however, the landscape achieved a quality respite that comforted the client in their home an outdoor space that enhanced their lifestyle. This demonstrates how Terra Design seeks to surpass client expectations while enhancing the natural beauty of Seattle’s diverse landscapes.
