About This Project

Woodland of Native Plants Landscape Design Associates Set within the foothills of Great Falls, Virginia, the 'Native Plant Woodland' was recently completed by Landscape Design Associates and exemplifies our focus on sustainable landscaping and ecological balance. A former sorry, underused plot has been cultivated into a lively oasis for flora and fauna native to the area. We performed a detailed site analysis of existing soil conditions and native species found in the area to start our process. We opted a range of native flora, from colorful wildflowers and drought-resistant ferns to towering trees, creating a landscape vibrant with native potential. This strategic placement of these plants to plant not only enhance biodiversity this also improves soil health this also helps to conserve water. The hardest aspect of this was dealing with the rocky soil while also ensuring that drainage was adequate to keep water from accumulating and becoming saturated in this woodland landscape. Our experienced team used permeable materials on pathways and planting beds, allowing for the best drainage while preserving a natural look. We also used natural stone to bring a more cohesive look to the woodland, as it transitioned beautifully into its environment. The end result is a stunning local native plant woodland that delivers beauty and calm while also offering educational opportunities for the community. And our client loved the transformation, they were happy with the balance of nature and design. The new space features tranquil trails, colorful gardens with seasonal flowers, and sounds of native birds and animals in a sustainable setting reflecting the natural history of Great Falls, where visitors can encounter the native habitats of the region.
