TITLE: ST ELMO HISTORIC COTTAGE DRAFT WIRING Dream Gardens Landscape Design & Installation were so pleased to showcase this beautiful before and after of the St Elmo Historic Cottage, located in the beautiful Chattanooga neighborhood of St Elmo on. We set out to preserve the cottage's lovely heritage with minor adjustments made. First we created a wild, native plant garden that connects to the local ecosystem, using a mix of native wildflowers, ornamental grass, and shrubs all chosen for their suitability for the local environment. The pathways are topped with authentic locally sourced stone, which is durable and will stand the test of time as well as remnants of beautyart! The first obstacle was the uneven ground to the cottage itself. We designed tiered gardens throughout so that they would be both accessible and create a visually pleasing sight. For a smooth visual connection between the cottage and the surrounding landscape, we added decorative boulders and naturalistic rock formations. We added a built-in, permeable paver patio to make outside gathering spaces more inviting and provide a clean and effective way for rainwater to flow in and out. Complimenting the outdoor space is new handcrafted wooden benches and fire-pit for family and friends to spend evenings under the stars. The end result was an entertaining mixture of old world with new age amenity that hit the mark with their vision. And through careful detailing and quality craftsmanship, the landscape evolved as a meaningful container for the spirit of the cottage, as well as the lives of the inhabitants. In fact, the happy client was very pleased with the results claiming that the reconfigured outdoor area that they have converted into a personal oasis and a family favorite hangout. Dream Gardens is proud to join the efforts of returning this historic gem to life in downtown Chattanooga.
