The space is part of the St. Elmo neighborhood and incorporates modern lines, color, and sustainable approaches. The included a well designed native plant garden that consisted of a wide variety of ornamental grasses, flowering perennial and hardscape shrubbery. A contemporary home needs a modern touch to their garden, with a little play of rustic here and there, so we built a dry-stacked retaining wall using local stone that not only adds functionality but also rustic nature to the modern look. To ensure proper drainage and minimize runoff, we chose permeable pavers for the paths, which also reflects our sustainability ethic. The site has a steep terrain and that posed a great challenge in meeting the drainage and stability requirement, it was an obstacle that had to be dealt with and assimilated into the other aspects of the . We designed tiered planting beds with our experience in hand to set the landscape apart visually while also playing a vital role structurally. This initial planning enabled a smooth transition between the contemporary architecture of the cottage and its garden oasis. The end product is a beautiful balance of beauty and utilitarian use a welcoming outdoor living space featuring a custom-built fire pit nestled in a seating area ideal for entertaining or peaceful evenings under the stars. Perhaps the warm emphasis on various key features in the form of accent lighting will be a beautiful add on for effect once the sun sets.
