About This Project

Newton Backyard by Natalie DeNormandie In the heart of Newton, we had the pleasure of working on this with a dedicated landscaping professional whose designs and attention to detail have made her well-known around town, Natalie DeNormandie. The goal of this was to create an outdoor space that combined function and design for the homeowner, who wanted to create a private outdoor retreat. The design included a multi-tiered patio made with bluestone from a local quarry that is both extremely durable and adds a timeless design element to the space. The custom firepit to complement the patio provides the perfect focal point for gathering and is an enticing outdoor space that can be used all year round. The planting materials selected for the design are all native to the area providing a stunning slab of colors, just the right amount of maintenance, and a great resource for pollinators. One of the biggest challenges we faced during the was that there was a slope for the backyard that required thinking outside the box to ensure we provided for proper drainage and access to the patio. This required terraces to remove the slope and create usable space, while also stabilizing the soil and providing additional visual interest to the design. We were able to utilize real stone for walls to create the right balance from the house to the yard. Overall, the end is a beautiful balance between nature and landscape design. It encourages and enhances the outdoor experience, while catering to the client's lifestyle. The landscaping has elevated the aesthetic of the outdoors as well as created a more functional outdoor entertainment space with guests. The client is thrilled with the results and now has a beautifully designed landscaped backyard that they find to be a cozy getaway right outside their front door. Natalie DeNormandie has become the standard for quality landscaping throughout Newton and its surrounding areas, creating outdoor experiences that are both captivating and inspiring.
