The is a remarkable transformation of a simple backyard into a functional and beautiful outdoor space. Longwood Garden features an elaborate hardscape created using a locally sourced bluestone, which creates an elegant space for entertaining. The spacious bluestone patio, with a fire pit surrounded by seating, is carefully designed for full use during starlit gatherings. The softscape is thoughtfully designed to achieve seasonal change of color and texture. Vegetation consists of locally sourced native perennials, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs. The finished planting plan provides year-round interest while also promoting biodiversity and focusing on environmentally responsible practices of drip irrigation and organic mulch. A significant challenge of the Longwood Garden was remediating the dramatically uneven terrain and poor soil conditions. Accurate leveling of the area and incorporating soil amendments will provide healthy growth of plants in the landscape. Furthermore, carefully placed boulders provide structural integrity for the landscape and development of that naturalistic feel to the site. In the end, we achieved a beautiful garden that surpassed our clients' goals of a backyard retreat.
