About This Project

- Food Foraging Meadow The Food Foraging Meadow , a completed work by award-winning landscape architect Natalie DeNormandie, is an excellent example of sustainability, beauty, and function. Located in a beautiful atmosphere, this innovative landscape is both a pleasing site to view and a usable area for local wildlife and community foragers. Natalie used a diverse palette of native and edible perennials, including wild garlic, berry bushes, and several types of herbs, to transform the wild space into a functional meadow. These plants was purposely selected to support ecological diversity and provide continual foraging opportunities. She utilized organic soil amendments and mulched other areas to improve soil conditions to enhance the health of the sod and minimize ongoing management of the . The site had geological challenges of varying grades and existing drainage issues. During the planning process, it was important to redirect the water; and the installation of a rain garden effectively managed the water during heavy storms while enabling the health of the sod area and maintaining the natural landscape and ecological integrity related to the site. The end result is a beautiful ,low-maintenance meadow for foraging, exploration and community interactions. Walking paths are perforated in the meadow where visitors can explore foraging zones while providing needed access for site performance assessment and maintenance. The diversity of color and texture of all of the plants creates a space for escape; space that has thrilled both the client and the greater community. By focusing on sustainability and enhancing ecology on a human level, the Food Foraging Meadow presents and affirms DeNormandie's commitment to craftsmanship and innovative design, for the neighborhoods of Acton, Arlington and beyond.
