About This Project

Westchester Transitional Landscape and Pool Sean Jancski Landscape Architects LLC completed the Westchester Transitional Landscape and Pool for the upscale, private community of Rye. The took what was a traditional backyard and transformed it into a calming outdoor space, melding the architectural lines of the home into the rich planted landscape. The landscape features a carefully crafted swimming pool with a wide patio made of premium quality bluestone pavers that provide a seamless transition between the interior of the house and the outdoor spaces. The area surrounding the pool is enhanced with custom constructed integrated seating and a modern fire pit to enjoy warm evenings under the stars. The plantings are intentionally designed with diverse native species that are well suited for the local climate to limit maintenance and environmentally sustain the requirements. The lush planted greenery is composed of ornamental grasses, flowering perennials as well as evergreen plantings that provide year round plant interest and added privacy. One of the challenges associated with the was the steep topography of the site. One of the solutions implemented to meet the challenge was a series of retaining walls made of natural stone to provide both engineered stability and aesthetic beauty. The retaining walls provided beneficial planting areas and allowed the landscape to be tiered above grade providing additional visual interest and completeness to the landscape. The end result is an iconic landscape that embraces the premise of transitional design when traditional and modern design meet. The clients were thrilled with the transformation and had an outdoor space they could cohesively enjoy and entertain.
