Contemporary Courtyard by Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects Located in downtown Chicago, the "Contemporary Courtyard" reveals the creative vision and careful craftsmanship of Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects. The landscape is a beautiful outdoor transformation that balances modernist principles with purpose, creating a calming expression of urban nature indicative of the owner's lifestyle habits. The design incorporates a combination of hardscaping and softscaping; it features quality materials of natural bluestone pavers and sustainably-harvested natural wood decking. The centerpiece of the contraction within the courtyard is the custom water feature, which highlights a linear fountain and its texture of plants, the combination is restful to guests. The plants were adapted to this garden, given options of ornamental grasses and native flowers; they provided visual interests in all seasons while enabling improved biodiversity. The limited site and existing drainage issues were the major challenges on this . The Hoerr Schaudt team solved these problems by installing a quick, advanced drainage system and raised garden beds for the vegetation; thereby reinventing the drainage and also improving the aesthetic of the site. The end product has a great Contemporary Courtyard that fits well in Chicago's urban fabric. The courtyard has crisp terraces, green structures, and a pleasant feel for the client - ultimately providing ideas for future landscaping s in cities like Chicago, Chicago Heights, Elmwood Park, Glenview, Melrose Park, and Oak Park.
