Bayou Peninsula by McDugald-Steele Located in the sought-after River Oaks area of Houston, the Bayou Peninsula by McDugald-Steele is a great example of custom landscape design and implementation at its best. This redefined a standard lot in a residential neighborhood and created a relaxing, idyllic outdoor retreat that brings together luxury and nature seamlessly. The has an impressive variety of native plantings that were selected to thrive in the local climate, all while offering aesthetic appeal for year-round exertion. The use of magnolia trees, azaleas, and ornamental grasses fill the landscape with color and texture, inviting access and enjoyment of the outdoor space by the wildlife and residents alike. On top of that, our detailed irrigation system was designed to conserve water, furthering our aim toward sustainability. One of the major challenges we faced on-site was the existing topography, which consisted of uneven surfaces and poor drainage. With our experienced team, we created tiers within the landscape that enhanced the appearance while also addressing drainage and erosion issues. Beautiful custom-stone paths made of local limestone connect the landscape into different garden zones to encourage discovery and exploration throughout the backyard landscape. To complement the layered planting style we created, we included a gentle water pond with a waterfall that would invoke feelings of tranquility and peacefulness. The water feature provided a clear, unobstructed focal point to the outdoor space while generating a pleasant sound. Lastly, functional, relaxed seating came into play with stunning stone benches and shaded pergolas that invite relaxation while surrounded by natural beauty. After completion, we had an enthusiastic client who was thrilled with the transformation, including the attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and nuance of placing different elements together to enhance their property's outdoor experience. Overall the raised the value of the property, while creating an outdoor experience and retreat for the client that accurately reflected the lifestyle of outdoor living.
