Southern Splendor

Southern Splendor by McDugald-Steele Located in the River Oaks district, McDugald-Steele brought ‘Southern Splendor’ to life. This landscape renovation captures the southern charm and elegance of many of our southern garden styles. The transformed a traditional estate into a new outdoor living space as glorious as the flourishing neighborhoods of Houston that surround it. The design encompasses a juxtaposition of classic southern styles with contemporary outdoor living and areas for entertaining. It features native plant species that we carefully selected to be in harmony with the climate. We could not resist a stunning array of azaleas, fragrant gardenias, and magnificent live oak trees that will provide color year round and enhance ecological sustainability and resilience in the garden. We incorporated durable and high-quality materials for pathways and garden beds, including reclaimed brick for pathways, and natural stone for retaining walls. One of the significant challenges we faced on this site was the site's drainage, which could adversely affect the health of all the new plants. The landscape architects compensated for this by designing and implementing a unique rain garden system to address the stormwater drainage while creating a unique design and pinning the colorful perennials as a feature. The final product is a combination of vibrant colors and textures, and fragrant materials, that is exciting to the senses. The expansive patio is a great outdoor-social entertaining space, the rippling water offers a serene experience, and the lush plants surround everything indoors and outdoors. Clients were incredibly pleased, given the opportunity to merge the beauty of nature with their outdoor living lifestyle, and have a true sense of Southern Splendor. This illustrates McDugald-Steele's focus on craftsmanship and superior detail, which not only improves the appearance of the property, but improves the quality of life on the property as well.
