About This Project

Houston Estate - Casual The 'Houston Estate - Casual' , designed by McDugald-Steele, is a beautiful transformation and represents a practical balance of beauty and functionality in the landscape. Located in the heart of Houston, the large estate needed to combine natural beauty, outdoor living space, elements of relaxation, and functionality for entertainment. Our design team incorporated many aspects into the proposal. We used lots of lush, perennial flower beds with color through the four seasons to engage the senses, along with beautiful custom stone paths that guide a visitor throughout the estate. In addition, we wanted to preserve and utilize native Texas plants that enhance beauty while prioritizing sustainability with minimal water and maintenance. We also selected premium-grade limestone for the patios to add long-lasting and timeless beauty that complements the estate’s architecture. One of the significant challenges presented was the considerable slope of the yard and the opportunity to create a playful multi-story garden. Our design team created a series of tiered planters that not only create much needed interest and elevation throughout the garden but also help to contain soil erosion on the site. To help with sound and to enhance the experience of the visitor in the outdoor space, we incorporated an elegant water feature for sight and sound. The end result is a visually stunning and inviting landscape for relaxation while gathering with friends and family in lush pockets of fragrant blooms and greenery, and a delighted client who loves how the outdoor spaces turned out, not only from an aesthetic perspective but also from a thoughtful functionalization perspective. McDugald-Steele has fulfilled the request to set the standard for beautiful landscaping in Houston, serving communities from Bellaire to River Oaks and beyond.
