Austin Residence by McDugald-Steele The 'Austin Residence,' an action-packed landscaping by McDugald-Steele, has changed the perception of outdoor living. In the very heart of Houston, this demonstrates our ambition, our ambition to create the best, and our creativity as artists! The team designed a picturesque landscape as the origin of the home. The design started with native plants that will survive the test of time. They add drought-resistance, and colorful, textural interest across the seasons, so we selected the latest and greatest plants available. Additionally, a stone pathway, composed of native Texas limestone, guides visitors through flourishing garden beds filled with ornamental grasses and blooming perennials. One of the challenges that developed from the site was a sloping terrain, where complications with proper drainage and accessibility were encountered. Even so, our exciting team designed tiered garden beds to account for these challenges and provide visual interest. Since the new facade of the garden beds faced the homescape, we also constructed natural stone retaining walls to bolster the landscape, while providing design visuals. Finally, we moved south on the home perimeter and developed an outdoor living space that embodied a stylized rustic gazebo and a trimmed patio that displays natural stonework. The outdoor living space allows the owners to entertain surrounded by formal gardens while being peaceful on the property. Now, the end result is an enchanting outdoor retreat that the clients admire and enjoy - a biophilic-space that encourages their desire to be in the middle of the garden just outside their back door. McDugald-Steele performed at its best, and all of our small of high approach, was at work. The Austin Residence is now more than a home; it is a lifetime retreat for family in harmonious, environmental luxury!
