Top of Old Stone Crossing Donnellan & Sons Landscaping is proud to present 'Top of Old Stone Crossing', an elegant metamorphosis demonstrating our commitment to quality and creativity in landscaping. Located in the beautiful communities of West Hartford, Farmington, and Avon, this demonstrates our ability to celebrate Mother Nature and integrate an appealing landscape with usable outdoor space. We began the with a full consultation to identify the homeowner's vision for their property. We were presented with a significantly sloped yard, which created drainage issues and made the yard unusable at first glance. After a lot of planning, we created a tiered landscape that addressed the drainage issues and improved the aesthetic value of the property as a whole. This landscape features unique stone retaining walls built with local granite which serve the dual purpose of function and beauty. The tiered walls create distinct levels in the yard for planting an array of different species tolerant of their microclimate. The garden is filled with perennial blooms and native grasses that coupled with our design will provide color to the garden all year long while being low-maintenance. We also created a winding stone path to lead visitors through the landscape while providing a more genteel entrance to the seating area. The seating area features custom-built benches and is surrounded by fragrant herbs and flowering shrubs to create a pocket of peace and calm from which the homeowners may relax or entertain their guests. In an effort to maintain sustainable practice, we created rain gardens and designed stormwater management to reduce runoff while increasing local biodiversity. Essentially, we employed many logistical solutions to create soil stabilization measures and plant selections to help the landscape thrive in its new home. The all encompassing end product of this is a breathtaking outdoor living space encompassing beauty and plant function. The clients expressed their excitement to be able to come home to such a beautiful garden, which they can now showcase to friends and family, while simultaneously adding curb appeal to the home and an additional outdoor living space for entertaining and relaxation.
