CLASSIC SOUTHERN RETREAT Coogan's Design Build is excited to showcase the "Classic Southern Retreat," which captures the spirit and history of Southern hospitality in a thoughtfully landscaped garden. Located in the heart of the greater Charlotte metropolitan area, including Fort Mill and Matthews, this represents a harmonious balance of traditional design and modern function. The began with a spacious outdoor living area featuring a custom stone patio fabricated from local flagstone. This natural stone not only contributes to the visual appeal of the space but is also durable against weather and other wear and tear. Surrounding the patio area were gardens featuring a variety of native plant species and cultivars that provide texture and color all through the year - contrasting yet harmonious with the tranquility of the space. The sloped topography of the property created challenges of its own, which we tackled with tiered garden beds made from natural stone walls that anchored the beds into the site. This solution helped to preserve the prepared garden beds, created usable space for planting gardens, and ultimately held the soils in place. The soothing sound of water contributed to this great retreat, where the main water feature has a gentle waterfall that spills into a koi pond. Soothing sounds of water make this a great area for relaxation or entertainment. To further intensify the outdoor experience for our client, low-voltage landscape lighting was added to light the pathways and highlight features in the retreat, extending the hours of usability into the evening. Our client was blown away with the final result of their own Classic Southern Retreat. Now they have a beautiful garden oasis for family and friends to gather and enjoy all of what Southern hospitality is . Coogan's Design Build could not be more happy bringing this vision of their client's to life and we will continue to plan and create wonderful landscape spaces within our service area of Lake Wylie, Pineville, and surrounding locations in the greater Charlotte area.
