About This Project

Healdsburg Off-the-Grid Merge Studio is pleased to introduce the Healdsburg Off-the-Grid a beautiful landscape changing located in the heart of Sonoma County. This demonstrates Merge Studio's emphasis on sustainably working with the natural beauty of the North Bay. The client wanted an outdoor space that accounted for their sustainable lifestyle, while also being a serene getaway. Our team successfully designed a varied landscape with native drought wary plants located so that they required minimal water use while allowing for maximum biodiversity. Locally sourced materials were used to create beautiful stone pathways that meandered through the property to connect different areas of relaxation and thought. A cozy wooden pergola, built from reclaimed wood, provides shade and becomes a feature for outdoor gatherings. One of the major challenges was the sports unevenness of the site. Our landscape architects designed tiered planting beds strategies which addressed the incline of the slope while create an eye-catching tiered layering of colour and texture for visual interest for the seasons. A rainwater harvesting system installation clearly captures our intention of sustainability so the client can water their garden while gradually conserving the precious resource of water. The outcome is a lovely balance of function and form where everything is purposeful. The client was ecstatic with the site when they shared they had a rest stop for their outdoor adventure and connected to nature. The Healdsburg Off-the-Grid realizes the intent and quality of work Merge Studio provides thru innovative design solutions regarding responsible stewardship, while enhancing the beauty of Sonoma County.
