About This Project

Overview of the Westwood Traditional by Outside InStyle Located in Los Angeles, CA, Outside InStyle’s 'Westwood Traditional' landscaping is a showcase of artistry and craft. Designed for a discerning homeowner, the marries classic style with modern practicality to create a peaceful respite in a large outdoor area. Building on a sophisticated palette of drought-resistant plants, the design consists of a variety of lush vegetation accompanied by beautiful blooms to create a repeated rhythm that is successful and sustainable year round. Additionally, the includes a special stone pathway made of locally quarried flagstone that leads guests through the finely curated gardens, where ornamental grasses and blooming shrubs add texture and color while enriching the overall aspect. A significant context to the was the site's change in elevation. To address this, Outside InStyle included a series of tiered planting beds which are not only effective at managing drainage, but also provides interest and acts to counteract the site's grade. In the same vein, a custom wooden trellis covered in creeping vines is an added feature that provides a charming outdoor nook to retreat to. The also included implementation of a beautiful water feature- in this case a small pond with a fountain- which provide a serene way to get away to and to attract wildlife. The natural ambiance brought by the sound of flowing water improves the surroundings inviting the client on a welcome escape to their little corner of creation. The Westwood Traditional was an absolute success for the client, producing a landscape that looks and feels like timeless extension of the home's architecture.
