The began with the desire to create a calming oasis where nature and functionality complemented the client's lifestyle. Carefully, DSLD designed a high-quality outdoor space that includes an extraordinary stone patio made from locally sourced flagstone, capable of withstanding high-traffic use while providing a natural look. Notably, the patio is complete with a handmade pergola for shade and a comfortable space to sit surrounded by nature. When designing the concept, resourcing an outdoor fireplace constructed of artisan brick not only adds to the gathering aesthetic but will allow the family to continue entertaining and socializing beyond sunset. One of the most difficult drafts included working with the slope of the backyard. Through the skill of DSLD's licensed and experienced landscape architects, a shortened garden design creating tiered layers using boulder retaining walls was developed to create a variety of levels for interest, while allowing for easy backyard access. The retained material also allowed for excess drainage away from the house and offered the experience of previously unusable stone reclamation to create stunning flowerbed gardens complete with native plants and bold perennials that provided color, attracted wildlife, and offered experience while the seasons changed. A state-of-the-art irrigation system was also included to ensure with reasonable conservatism, a sustainable response for the new landscape to thrive. Even with the nights in mind, ambient landscape lighting added architectural appeal to the garden experience for family gatherings.
