Landscape Steps by Harmony Design Group Located within the beautiful neighborhoods of New Providence, the 'Landscape Steps' by Harmony Design Group is a reflection of our love for creating beautiful outdoor spaces! The main goal of the was to enhance the outdoor functionality of the existing home while also improving the views of the backyard oasis. This was no easy task, given the steep slope down to the home’s backyard. The began with looking at the site topography and ultimately we determined that because of the steep slope, a beautiful style of stone steps were the right option for the site. We began sourcing stones that were durable, but were also beautiful to look at, and would easily blend in with the landscape. Our craftsman painstakingly shaped and installed each of the stones, achieving the perfect transition as users would flow through the natural surroundings. Alongside of the beautiful stone steps, we also added some native plantings alongside the path for a pop of color, and to add some seasonal texture and balance. The overall aesthetic was greatly improved with plantings and we combined all of this with our eco-friendly landscaping philosophy: native plantings will always work best for local biodiversity. Another one of the challenges was to ensure proper drainage along the slope. We did not want erosion to impact the site, or create any issues with the stairs. So, we specified and engineered a drain for the site that utilized permeable materials to keep water flowing away from our stairs, while maintaining the adjacent landscape. In the end, we created a beautiful set of stairs that would provide both access, and a stunning visual feature within the landscape. The clients were thrilled with the outcome, noting how beautiful the transformation was, and how the steps provide a warm invitation into their backyard paradise.
