Coastal Contemporary | Company: Carolina Landscape, Inc. Located on the coastal oceanfront of Charleston is the recently completed 'Coastal Contemporary' by Carolina Landscape, Inc. Rooted in the vibrant cultures and communities that span from Folly Beach to Kiawah Island, this delivers a contemporary design perfectly integrated into the local coastal environment. The consists of an elaborate layout with a large terrace in high slip-rated porcelain tiles, blending both inside and outside. To wrap the patio, lush native plantings both soften the space and help increase sustainable practices by attracting wildlife. We carefully selected drought-tolerant ornamental grasses and perennial plants in a wide variety of colors and textures that produce a beautiful display at various times during the year with the least amount of water. Sandy soil and winds with high salt content were two of the distinct challenges we encountered on site. We achieved this by using a custom soil amendment program that matched each planting with its corresponding coastal climate habitat. We also installed an advanced irrigation system that saves water and maintains the greenery alive and healthy. In addition, a beautiful fire pit area was built using stones that were salvaged from the property where the home was built and turned into an inviting gathering place for family and friends to enjoy evenings under the stars. Adding ambient LED landscape lighting, both in and outside, meant that after sunset the landscape was a magical retreat in which to enjoy the evening. The end result far surpassed our client's aspiration and achieved a seamless integration of contemporary aesthetics and coastal character to give a presence that would sit comfortably to its surroundings.
