Red Mill Village Ryan Associates Landscape Architecture & Planning created the Red Mill Village in an active community and is a beautiful balance of nature and design. The is spread over several acres of land in amazing, picturesque Arlington, which was designed for a more visually and functionally appealing community of residential homes. At the beginning, the presented the challenge of transforming a previous underutilized green space into a new place for people to gather and interact. Sustainability was an important consideration and therefore native plants and drought-tolerant materials were employed in order to have a low maintenance gardens and surrounding landscapes that would thrive in different seasonal conditions. The beautiful paths of permeable pavers weave and meander though the gardens. They allow for natural water filtration while also providing access from the residential property to the various community gathering spaces. One of the unique features is the tranquil water feature designed to create a calm feeling and atmosphere among the gardens. Locally sourced stone and a designated palette of native aquatic plants provides visual interest while nurturing local wildlife. The inclusion of perennial gardens adds color in all seasons and targets pollinators in the ecological community found within Arlington. Every detail was crafted with care and quality in mind, from how the hardscaping was finished to the selection of plant species. It is a truly pleasing and beautiful that met the needs of the client from an aesthetics perspective while functionally providing needed space for families and residents to gather and enjoy the outdoor space.
