About This Project

Newton Center The notes Melissa MacDonald, Landscape Architect, as the manager for the Newton Centre, a signature example of thoughtful design and exacting work. Located in beautiful Newton, the firm was able to change an ordinary outdoor space into a lovely, usable garden that fits well with the architecture and landscape around it. The design features a wonderful assortment of native plantings, selected for their suitability for New England climates, visual interest all year round, and low maintenance. A meandering bluestone path of local stone winds through the lush garden beds of native plantings. Seating areas are a placed right in the middle of rich landscape plannings for spots of comfort and tranquility. The action of sustainability was at front and center; they were able to work in roadside rain gardens that made their way to the gardens and manage stormwater runoff, ecological balance, and the improvement of many plants and wildlife. Throughout Melissa's work on the , there were challenges, because of a history of the site having some challenges with unevenness of existing grades and drainage. There was also a need for some creative grading, as well as the addition of permeable stone pavers, like bluestone road side rain gardens and more, that led to a beautiful landscape that not only achieved the goals but works well together. The final product was shared and received with pleasure for the their blend of beauty with working, functional spaces. Melissa MacDonald, Landscape Architect completed a wonderful design that stands as an example of quality of work and a love for creating landscapes that inspire and last beyond 1 season. This adds value to the neighborhood and overall standards of landscapes in the Greater Boston area.
