About This Project

Huron Village, Cambridge Designed and executed by the talented Melissa MacDonald, Landscape Architect, the Huron Village in Cambridge showcases outstanding landscaping design and construction. Located in a thriving community, the was intended to improve the aesthetics of region while also creating habitable outdoor spaces for its residents. The incorporates a thoughtful mix of native plantings selected for local climate, providing sustainability and low maintenance. Beautiful stone pathways made from locally sourced bluestone wind through the site directing residents to intimate seating areas surrounded by plantings . The use of permeable paving is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it helps the manage water more effectively, while addressing drainage that is unique to the site. One of the challenging aspects of the was site topography and the existing root structures of mature tress. With some creative solutions incorporating tiered planting beds and boulders to define seating edges we were able to create a visually striking landscape that acknowledges the existing ecology, while creating new areas for ongoing community interaction. The end result is a beautiful outdoor place for enjoyment and relaxation, with flower beds bursting with changing color throughout the seasons. The client was highly satisfied with the transformation of their space, stating how the function and beauty of the outdoor space are clearly balanced. Huron Village continues to be an asset to the neighbourhood which truly reflects both Melissa MacDonald’s vision as well as the sense of commitment to quality she puts into her work.
