Highland Divide Highland Divide, a recent completed by Flora Distinctive Landscapes, showcases the harmony of nature with artistry, creating a stunning outdoor sanctuary out of a sloped property. Located in Kremmling, the design of this was aimed to benefit the natural landscape across the site, while simultaneously offering functional areas to lounge and entertain outdoors. Highland Divide's biggest feature is the custom stone retaining walls made of local granite. So these walls are not only functional to protect from erosion, but also provide different levels of gardening-area where so many different types of plants can grow. They worked with sustainable landscape designer Flora Distinctive Landscapes to select drought-resistant native plants that would thrive in the new garden setting and would work well with their natural surroundings. Wildflowers and ornamental grasses can also provide seasonal interest with their colorful displays and varying textures, offering food and habitat to local wildlife and pollinators that contribute to the local ecosystem. The site presented challenges with its steep gradient where innovative solutions were required to provide drainage and to stabilize the soil. With a network of drainage systems and interconnected porous pathways, the reduced water runoff issues, making it durable and suitable for use. This natural stone patio adds to the living space and is the ideal spot for family get togethers or a relaxing evening spent under the stars. With thoughtful placement of outdoor lighting, the patio welcomes warmth and atmosphere, creating an inviting landscape following the sun. When we completed, the clients said they were thrilled with the transformative Highland Divide.
