From the peaceful Kremmling all the way to the busy Steamboat Springs slopes, our team elevated this property into a mountain retreat that works in harmony with the surrounding landscape. It includes a blend of native plants, hardy perennials and ornamental grasses that were selected for their hardiness in changing temperatures and for their ability to easily grow on the rocky soil. Using local granite, durable stone walk paths run through the landscape to ensure that the design remains visually seamless with the surrounding area while retaining lasting integrity. A large pond that mirrors the magnificent mountains beyond was part of a complex water feature designed for both sound and sculpture; a small waterfall provides both movement and sound to the setting. A major challenge we had to overcome was the slope of the property. Our team quickly overcame this obstacle with terracing techniques using boulders as natural retaining walls that not only help stabilize the land, but also serve as little “planter beds” welcoming visualization and a sense of discovery. It incorporated custom-made seating areas within the surrounding verdant landscape, where rest finds many an opportunity. The outcome of the Mountain Grandeur is a glorious paradise, one that appeases the clients' desire for aesthetic beauty, yet conforms to and supplement the earth's beauty. Native plants, classic materials and sensitive design come together to create a utilitarian yet visually striking space. The end result was a landscape that our client loves and has said feels like the retreat or sanctuary they had hoped it would be; a place of gathering and a place of peace.
