About This Project

Stone Patio Redux by The Peoples Gardening Collective In the Northwest of the Greater Seattle Area, The Peoples Gardening Collective experienced the pleasure of completing its 'Stone Patio Redux', which transformed an underutilized backyard into a beautifully functional space for outdoor leisure. We engage with a variety of communities throughout the whole area from Ballard to Whidbey Island, and are familiar with the challenges sloped terrain brings for designing gardens. What is noteworthy our design and construction is the stone patio, carefully constructed using locally sourced, durable flagstone. We hand-selected each stone to offer all of the textures and color combinations brought by the natural surroundings. Surrounded by shades and textures of native plants and ornamental grasses, the site possesses a variety of spaces to enjoy relaxing, entertaining, and even eating. There are always concerns for managing drainage when you have slope, and, the hesitant structure for long term use in perched on the patio materials were concerns too. Our team was able to engineer a drainage system that would relieve the area of water appropriately while being aware of the drainage systems visual presence in the landscape, and we added some ambient lighting to illuminate the beauty of the stone, and the plants, for evenings of gathering. Overall, our result was beyond the expectations of our client - a functional, beautiful outdoor space that harmonize with their environment.
