Belmont No Lawn Front Yard Completed by: Nilsen Landscape Design, LLC In an effort to reinvent a traditional front yard into a beautiful, sustainable retreat, Nilsen Landscape Design, LLC is excited to share 'Belmont No Lawn Front Yard'. This unique landscaping took place in Belmont, a gorgeous neighborhood that exemplifies the notions of xeriscaping, creating a lovely setting while saving water and improving biodiversity. The began with a detailed site assessment to assess the distinct features of the yard, including sun patterns and soil conditions. The design team produced a memorable landscape plan that consisted of a diverse mix of native plants, ornamental grasses, and boulders selected to be cohesive to the natural landscape. Over 30 species of drought-tolerant plants were chosen based on their toughness and required maintenance, while a variety of colors can be displayed throughout the seasons. A few highlighted aspects of the design include a meandering stone walkway made of local granite that encourages exploring the yard while also moving guests through the installment of flooding plants. In addition to the walkway, a dry creek bed was designed to manage rainwater runoff and erosion wash-out, while creating a thriving habitat. Not only does the creek add visual interest and function for the environment, it assists with successfully preventing erosion. While undertaking this , Nilsen Landscape Design ran into a number of existing variables: existing tree roots and proper drainage in a compacted natural slope through the yard. The landscape team solved these obstacles by utilizing permeable materials; the easiest way to lessen flooding runoff. Overall, the clients completely eliminated grass, which established a quiet escape for the homeowners and for local species.
