Serving the many unique neighborhoods of the San Gabriel Valley and beyond, this demonstrates June Scott Design’s vision for beautiful outdoor spaces that integrate modern design with functional spaces. The started with a careful site analysis to understand the site’s topographical challenges, including extreme hillside conditions. Our team expertly worked through slopes and rocky site conditions, building retaining walls out of natural stone materials sourced within the local area. These walls helped to stabilize portions of the landscape and formed tiered beds filled with native, drought-tolerant plants that maintained sustainability and provided continual color and texture year-round. True to a modern aesthetic, we placed geometric pathways defined with polished concrete pavers amidst a ground cover to guide the visitor through the peaceful garden. The warm tones used in the hardwood custom glider and deck chairs invite visitors to relax and absorb the views, while embedded LED lights spotlight the beauty of the landscape after dark. A key focal point of this was the placement of a contemporary water feature that cascades down the hillside with gentle sounds that draw you in and adds a calming background ambience. This element immediately created an attraction to wildlife and made a natural connection to the surrounding environment. Although the experienced challenges of limited access for any heavy equipment and soft grading conditions; the team carefully planned and executed the design with extreme detail to each element; working in a collaborative way with individuals in each focus area. Ultimately, this resulted in a beautiful modern landscape that complements the home’s architecture perfectly while maximizing views from the hillside. The client was incredibly pleased with the ’s transformation and praised June Scott Design for seamlessly integrating nature with design and the outdoor spaces have become their private retreat.
