About This Project

New Community Landscape Design by Kennon Williams Landscape Studio Located in Virginia, the 'New Community' was completed by Kennon Williams Landscape Studio and serves the goal of beautification and functionality to an active neighborhood. The serves the communities of Charlottesville, Earlysville, Free Union, Hollymead, Keswick, Ivy, Lake Monticello, North Garden, Palmyra and more. The allowed for a showcase of native plantings, which consisted of flowering dogwoods, azaleas, ornamental grasses, and more, that continuously provide interest within the seasons and also support local wildlife. The materials utilized surfacing trails and gathering spaces were permeable paving stones so there is not a problem with water runoff in this region of the . Street or outdoor sustainability and participation were also important this . The great multi-functionality and place moment here were challenge to fit the existing topography of the site and make a cohesive design. The designers utilized multiple terraces to create function within the zones for more intimate and expansive neighborly spaces to gather and support the community. The hardscape elements were mostly chosen to be natural and reclaimed wood, so they are rustic and polished to ensure that the neighborhood function is maintained and will blend into the existing surroundings. The design of the central fire pit support connectivity for homeowners during cooler nights. The end result was a beautiful landscape that met the expected functions and exceeded the needs of the community. The client could sense the change from an ordinary space to a dramatic new communal landscape. The result of the work was confirmed by the client to bring quality, innovation, and sustainability to a permanent simple function space with an amazing first impression of the 'New Community.'
