Contemporary Courtyard Garden The Contemporary Courtyard Garden, located in downtown Sun Valley, ID, is a crisp melding of the modern and the utilitarian a creation by Ben Young Landscape Design. It transformed an underused area into a lively escape, connecting the outdoors with modern living. The design is a well-balanced composition that creates seasonal beauty with minimal maintenance due to its focus on native plantings. The palette was injected with a healthy dose of lush grasses and lovingly curated perennials to make sure there is always something colorful and interesting to survive over the seasons. To bring additional polish to the courtyard whilst maintaining design integrity and practicality we specified bluestone paving designed for ease of use and stability, resulting in low-maintenance, with good slip resistant properties. An accent wall made from reclaimed wood contributes an organic tone, providing a backdrop for outdoor entertainment. The site was built on uneven terrain, and one of the challenges throughout the was traversing between the slopes and two building levels. To circumvent this, we designed tiered planting beds that introduce a visual interest while providing for proper drainage and soil health. We also incorporated a discreet lighting system that accentuates architectural highlights in the landscape to enjoy this garden day or night. The completed is our timeless, Contemporary Courtyard Garden, showcasing the quality craftsmanship we pride ourselves on.
