Mt. Pleasant Backyard Renovation by REMARK Located in Mt. Pleasant, this backyard renovation from REMARK turned a very basic outdoor space into a lovely oasis. The owner wanted to update the space for their family to enjoy style and function, enhancing their lifestyle and increasing the property's value. Our process started with an in-depth consultation to fully understand the owner’s vision. We designed and installed a multi-level landscape with native planting to allow for all-season color, highlighting sustainability in the Lowcountry climate and reducing maintenance requirements. The work included a custom stone patio that extended the indoor living space to the outdoor living space and allowed the homeowners an area for entertaining family and friends or quiet evenings under the stars. A significant challenge was dealing with sloping land formations, which we addressed with the use of retaining walls and terraced gardens. Retaining walls added depth and visual interest while enhancing drainage patterns of the yard, allowing for the development of a lush yard of flowers and plants throughout the year. A path of flagstone, which was locally manufactured, provided a route through the gardens and outdoor space, combined with outdoor lighting to illuminate the area at night. An elegant water feature enhanced the outdoor ambiance as a beautiful focal point that attracted local wildlife while providing the family with peaceful background noise while entertaining outdoors. An outdoor kitchen was a final feature, made from durable construction, while matching overall aesthetics in design and construction, that could withstand the coastal environment. All in all, the result was exceptional - a beautiful backyard with style and function that catered to the owners’ lifestyle. The homeowner was very happy with the results, and it has become a local gathering place for family and friends.
