About This Project

Olde Village Backyard by REMARK Located in downtown Charleston, the 'Olde Village Backyard' by REMARK is a bold renovation that strikes a balance between tradition Southern design and contemporary outdoor living. We were engaged to breathe life into an underutilized landscape and create a lively outdoor space that would suit the needs and lifestyle of the client. The included an overall redesign, including new custom paver patio for entertaining, a beautiful fire pit with natural stone seating, and colorful native plantings to give the aesthetics popwhile being low maintenance and supporting local biodiversity. The materials, reclaimed wood for the raised garden beds and extremely durable and weather-resistant furniture, elevate the quality, longevity, and natural appearance. Truly, one of the challenges of the site was the dramatic grade change. Our talented landscape architects were able to level out the space, while creating tiers that would allow for visual interest and to create usable space with the gradients. Additionally, we mitigated the drainage issues using a sophisticated French drain, ensuring proper water movement and maintaining the beauty of the aesthetic. Ultimately, the finished product is a retreat that very happy client enjoys. The 'Olde Village Backyard' is created with a real balance of hardscaping and softscaping this space is suitable for family to gather, enjoy a calm night under stars, and is indicative of our philosophy and attention to detail at REMARK. This can be regarded as a true success and adds to our collection of outdoor spaces in Charleston and the surrounding area, that we are proud to contribute to.
