CHARMING SOUTHERN COURTYARD

Charming Southern Courtyard Coogan's Design Build is excited to share the 'Charming Southern Courtyard', a remarkable transformation right in the heart of Fort Mill. This wonderful outdoor space was thoughtfully designed, representing Southern living while providing a peaceful sanctuary for relaxing and entertaining. This courtyard features a sophisticated mix of natural stone pathways and flagstone patios, which facilitate a smooth, effortless flow from the home to the beautiful landscape. Our team selected the materials based on warm, earthy colors to coordinate with the homes existing architecture; they used locally sourced materials both for aesthetics and longevity. The slate patio encompasses a fabulous water feature with a gentle fountain, which pulls you in, offering calming modalities of sound. A notable challenge for us as the Landscape Architect was the site's slightly hilly topography. Our skilled landscapers graded the site effectively, delineating appropriate drainage as a part of their process, and creating an inviting multi-level design to capture useable space. The beauty comes together after securing native plantings incorporating colorful azaleas and fragrant gardenias that are both enriching to the space, supportive of the environment with local wildlife, and completing a sustainable approach to design. Secondly, Coogan's set cropped wooden trellises with climbing jasmine to establish a vertical presence adding more lush greenery for shade and privacy from neighbors. Lastly, outdoor lighting was used to highlight the architecture and created the ambiance to enjoy an outdoor escape into the evening. The result? A simply beautiful Southern courtyard adorned to perfectly fit the use of leisure and beauty within one space. Our client was incredibly pleased with the result, expressing their happiness in how the design strung nature through a beautiful outdoor space for family and friends.
