Sammamish Highlands

Summary: Sammamish Highlands Alderwood Landscape Architecture and Construction has recently completed a landscape called 'Sammamish Highlands', located in the beautiful Sammamish community. This converted a sizable residential estate into an exceptional outdoor haven using design excellence and high-quality craftsmanship. This beautiful design incorporates a cohesive arrangement of lush gardens, handcrafted stone walkways, and peaceful water features in place. In addition, high-quality materials were used in the outdoor living spaces, including regional flagstone and resilient green composites, which add sustainability to the aesthetic function. Plant species were included that are grown native to the surrounding ecology. Not only does this enhance the overall beauty of the landscape, but it also contributes to the ecological sustainability of attracting native wildlife and minimizes water consumption. A significant challenge we faced during this was working with a steep slope site topography of land. Being a steep slope, we integrated terracing techniques and some retaining wall construction to provide usable living spaces in an outdoor environment. Our ability to execute the engineered terracing and walls for functionality and aesthetic ensures that drainage problems would not negatively impact the integrity of the landscape. In the end, we created a stunning multi-layered garden that provides separate zones for relaxation, dining and recreation, including a custom fire pit with seating, accommodating gatherings, as well as peaceful water features, with plants that provide soothing sounds for ambiance. A very happy client stated they were amazed by the detail of the and the integration of the new landscape elements harmonized with the existing outdoor natural surroundings.
