Kate Martin Design: My Favorite Perennials Here at Kate Martin Design, we specialize in making outdoor spaces into original landscapes that reflect our clients' own personality and preferences! In our latest , "My Favorite Perennials," we are proud to present a continuation of our passion for quality, creativity, and place-based restoration. This garden design features a mix of perennials in a combination of carefully chosen plant selections, including beautiful coneflowers, lavender, and daylilies, that are resilient in the Pacific Northwest! We designed the space to include a variety of heights, colors, and textures, providing a relationship with the garden and adjacent areas throughout the seasons. One of the challenges with this was the sites exposure to sun throughout the day. Some areas received full sun while others were mostly shaded. We worked through this challenge by integrating full sun plants with plantings that benefit from shade, ultimately creating a naturalistic and seamless blending of plants across the landscape. Additional considerations were made to improve overall soil health and moisture content through quality organic soil amendments and mulch treatments in preparation for flowering. Throughout the design, we integrated natural stone paths that weave through the garden; this not only is functional, but it provides an invitation for visitors to explore and take in the of the thriving density of plants. The stone paths add aesthetic value and act as a relaxing refuge for the homeowners. It was amazing to see the completed! Clients were ecstatic the perennial garden, calling the finale a 'personal paradise', which spoke to the environmental love and creative design intent we explored. Not only has the garden improved the property; it increases value and sustainability. At Kate Martin Design, we create landscapes that inspire delight while connecting back to nature.
